This collection consists of two documents. One dated 1806 Mar. 20, which certifies that the vessel Melpomene sails under the U.S. flag. It is printed in Spanish, English, and Dutch. It is also signed by James Madison, who was serving as Secretary of State at that time. There is also a letter dated 1821 Mar. 5 written in Monticello, Va. to John Graves at the Louisa County Court House, Va., which concerns the payment of a note by Jefferson.

This collection consists of three color photographs. One is of the 'Landmark' building. One is of a house on the corner of 21st Street and Chestnut Street, and one is of the original Buena Vista Courthouse, which is now the Buena Vista Public Library. The buildings date from 1895-1910.

Tintype photograph of an unidentified man
A small tintype photograph of a suited man with a hat taken by Woodrich of Albany, New York. The tintype was discovered during a research survey called BookTraces by a team of scholars from the University of Virginia. The tintype was within a copy of the "Works of William Gilmore Simms."

Town Council Minutes and Ordinance Books for the City of Lexington, Virginia
This collection consists of 12 folio sized leather bound minute books documenting the meetings of the Lexington, Virginia Town Council, from August 1835 to August 1958 accompanied by two folio sized leather bound ordinance books from the Lexington Town Council. The first volume of town ordinances dates from August 1874 to August 1903 and the second volume dates from Februay 1911 to December 1931.
